Diamant Bicycles from Norway know what they’re doing, they have been making bicycles since 1908 and independently from the US fat bike scene have quietly pushed the limits of fatbikes in Norway.
The company motto ‘Diamant – The Lightweight choice!’
is completely affirmed with the launch of the new top of the range all carbon Diamant F1-LTD fat bike (This model is sold in Norway as the BigBob LTD).
The limited edition Diamant F1- LTD Fat Bike is one of the worlds lightest production fat bikes at sub-9kg stock (Medium size = 8.7kg), if not the lightest production fatbike.
This bike includes a tubeless kit for lower rolling resistance and the lowest weight. No costly aftermarket additions, with its C4 carbon rims, American Classic hubs, XX1 , Formula R1 brakes and more carbon than an F1 car this bike comes complete at race weight from day 1.
The focus of the Norwegian Diamant brand is on functional lightweight design Diamant fatbike designers aim for maximum flotation on snow, which is reflected in the bikes geometry, which by coincidence happens to work great on Australian or New Zealand sand! The rest of the Diamant Mammut fat bike range comes with Carbon or butted Alloy frames to save weight and some of the widest rim and tyre combinations on the market to achieve flotation and improved handling in soft conditions.
Diamant bikes are available downunder at select bike shops, on-line at www.fatbike.com.au and wholesale via Outdoors International Pty Ltd.

Urge Helmets are coming to Australia. “No nonsense” That’s the Urge Bike Products motto.
It’s a great motto, but is also one that is not always easy to live by when you manufacture bike helmets. Urge Bike Products is not a followers brand and since their inception they have allowed themselves to break some of the rigid codes of our little world. But hey, they don’t only shakeup the machine. Their goal instead is to put things in motion towards better products backed by innovative design and sustainable forward thinking.
Urge believe this is the true definition of an, “Activist…” We here at Outdoors International are doing our best to honour the Urge creed and shake up the Australian Helmet scene, we’re fighting the red tape, legislation and bureaucracy and hopefully will get the Urge helmet range tested and certified to Australian/New Zealand standard AS/NZS2063-2008.
We can’t wait as the Urge Bike Products Activists, make sure that all of their helmets are not only nice looking, lightweight, comfortable and protect you against the worst conditions, but in addition to these standards, Urge products aim to manufacture with less polluting materials. The company is partly owned by ex World Champion Down Hill rider Faben Barel and his “real world race” influence can be seen throughout the range. We are very proud to partner with Urge Bike Products and launch their 2014 product line.
We expect to get the green light to put the Australian standard sticker on some time in early 2014. If your interested in any product in the urge range let us know. Trade enquiries welcome.

Sneak Preview Pre-production: The Diamant Mammut F3 it’s a 11.5kg, XT equipped Rocketship !
Diamant Fat Bikes are coming to Australia and New Zealand ! Outdoors International is pleased to announce that we have partnered with Diamant Bicycles from Norway who have been making bicycles since 1908 and that we will be the importer and distributor of the Diamant Mammut Fat Bike Range. Fatbikes are great for the beach, desert sand, snow or as an all purpose adventure bike.
The Diamant founder Aksel Gresvig was a racing cyclist and founded the company in 1901. His vision was take sporting activity to the people. This philosphy has been continued by his successors with a focus on light weight products, with high specification componentry for the best possible price. Diamant quietly developed it’s own fat bikes independently of the Alaskan scene (Norway has a lot of snow!) and this has lead to a 3rd generation of products based on designs that are tried and tested. The 2014 bikes are alloy framed, have 4.7 inch wide tires and will offer class leading weight for price.
Two Fat Bikes will be offered downunder the Mammut F4 and the Mammut F3 which based on the sample weights (less peddles) should wiegh in about 14.5kg and 11.5kg respectively. A 24″ mini-Fat Bike will be available by special order. The photos attached are of the pre-production samples Production specificatons and pricing will be released shortly see the Diamant Australia Website at Diamantbikes.com.au, Retail/Trade enquiries welcome.
Well we made it to Cape York with our young son and what an amazing adventure we had, I wasn’t sure it was possible but with some careful planning not only did we make it but we had a fantastic time along the way!!
Our learnings were:
1. Be realistic about daily travel times with young children and the distances you can cover – we only travelled during Sam’s daytime sleeps which meant it took longer to get to Cape York than we initially thought but we had a happy little boy the whole trip 🙂
2. Equipment – you need the right equipment and cover yourself for equipment failing as we found this did happen from time to time:
– the Eddie Bauer bed worked extremely well, depending on the size of your child it should be useable up to 6 months but larger babies may find it too small after 5 months
– the XXXX fold down bath was a great bathtime solution whilst camping enabling us to ensure Sqm had his daily bath regardless of whether we were on a commercial campsite or a remote site
– te Summer Bottle Warmer and Steriliser enabled us to heat Sam’s bottle when all other camping gear was packed away – great for on the go!
